they beat me
into submission with subtle forms
of violence and the promise of jelly
roll they found out what I was
made of and made me pay for more I struggled to repay my debts my back was against the wall I
couldn’t catch a break there was no
relief at all but I did not fade
away I hung on by a thread while the ladies of the parish furnished me with bread their kindness and generosity meant I did not freeze coz there’s no justice in a system that keeps a man on his knees just another unfortunate victim of societal
disease
